Iceland - Chris Stenger Travel and Nature Photography

Iceland

Iceland is a stunning country with exceptionally spectacular landscapes. It has a lot to offer, especially if you love rugged nature. Therefore it’s a paradise for landscape photographers. However, the island is now overrun with photographers and other tourists. At many popular highlights, such as the glacial lagoon Jökulsarlon, the mountain Kirkjufell and the volcanic landscape of Landmannalaugar, you’ll almost trip over the many tourists. I don’t like crowds and and I certainly don’t want to shoot with hundreds of other photographers around me, so I haven’t travelled to Iceland much in recent years. It’s a pity, because it remains a stunning country with so much photographic potential.

The 2021 coronavirus year was an exception. Travel was difficult, and entry to Iceland required a negative coronavirus test on the day of departure. Too much hassle and risk, and people stayed away from the country. A golden opportunity for us though and we traveled around for four weeks in September without being disturbed by the usual hordes of tourists. Probably the last opportunity to visit this beautiful island in peace.

The island is also a true bird country. Millions of seabirds breed along the Icelandic coast. You will find Photos of Icelandic birds on the page ‘European Birds‘.
