Canada - Chris Stenger Travel and Nature Photography - Lake in Banff National Park

Het westen van Canada

Canada, like the United States, is an enormous country. In terms of size, it is the second largest country in the world after Russia. However, only about 40 million people live in Canada, so it is sparsely populated. No wonder, then, that large parts of this country are still more or less untouched. A great destination, therefore, for nature lovers and photographers. The National Parks of Banff and Jasper in the western states of Alberta and British Columbia are particularly well-known. Unfortunately overrun by tourists nowadays. But in such a large country, there is much more. To name just a few, the unique rain-forests on Vancouver Island, the Northern Rockies in northern British Columbia (virtually unknown to tourists), and the endless northern taigas and tundras in the territories of the Yukon and the Nortwest.

I made several photography trips in Canada, primarily to the west. Particularly the trip I made in 2017 was memorable. From Calgary, we traveled all the way north to the Yukon and back. When we started in Calgary, mid-August, it was full summer. A few weeks later, in early September, we arrived in the Yukon, where autumn had begun. Once back in the south, we had a snowstorm in early October. We had experienced three seasons in eight weeks!
