Unspectacular landscapes
Often landscapes in Australia are not that spectacular. This continent is relatively flat with few elevation changes. Therefore you will not find mountain landscapes with steep peaks, deep valleys, and glaciers. In fact, most of Australia is a dry, sandy desert. The interior is virtually uninhabited, and you can drive for days without encountering another person. Impressive, but not very spectacular. Consequently you have to search and drive for a long time to find photographic highlights.
Australia’s unique wildlife
In contrast to the landscape, the animal world is truly remarkable. Many species are extinct outside Australia but have managed to survive here. These endemic animals are therefore found exclusively on this continent. Examples include the various species of marsupials and koalas.
Flora in Australia
The flora is unique as well. The eucalyptus forests, where the trees are adapted to the dry climate, are particularly characteristic. They can even withstand moderate forest fires, which often occur in Australia. The curious grass tree is also a typical Australian plant.
In the gallery below you will find images of well-known Australian animals such as Kangaroos and Cockatoos. You’ll also find photos of desert landscapes (Pinnacles Desert and the Pilbara), the Eucalyptus forests of the southwest, and the slot canyons of Karijini National Park.
